Chapter 2: First Day at the Shanghai World Expo 2010

The alarm pierced the silence of Bly's room and she bolted awake. Is it night or morning? She wondered. Jet lag sucked.

Getting ready, she ran through the events of last night...awkward ambassador, dumplings, oh the boy! She couldn't help feeling a bit giddy.

It was just a smile, but still. He was hot and she had finally seen some people her age--even if she felt they were way cooler than her.

Enough of the boy, she thought. Today was the first day of work and she mentally prepped herself for a long day @meiguoren #USAP pavilion.

In the taxi on her way to the main gate, Bly gaped at the sprawling, lively city around her. #Shanghai, #China was truly an amazing place.

The driver pointed to a monstrously large building looming in the sky. Bly sucked in her breath. “China Pavilion” he said in a thick accent.

Bly paid the taxi and began her long journey through the park. It was practically it’s own city! Bly thought. She finally reached the #USAP.

It was pretty she thought, but a bit corporate and in no way rivaling the other country's pavilions @worldexpo2010 #expo10 #worldexpo

Chapter 1: Dumplings

The Grey family sat in DinTaiFeng, a traditional Chinese dumpling restaurant with fake smiles plastered on their faces. #ShanghaiRestaurant

"Are you happy to be in #Shanghai helping your parents @worldexpo2010?" The @JapanesePavilion ambassador smiled at Bly wryly. @expochina

Spoiled little American he thought to himself. "And how old are you?" Bly shifted uncomfortably in her chair, trying to seem older, "22."

Bly thought about mentioning that she was in College, but figured this guy had already written her off as the annoying tag along.

"Fuwu!" One of the burly bodyguards called to a waitress.

A few seconds later a steaming basket of pork dumplings was placed on the table.

Shakily, Bly tried using her chopsticks, and hoped to hide her lack of skill. Then, out of the corner of her eye, she saw them.

Bly slunk down in her seat, attempting to go unnoticed by the laughing, attractive group of 20-somethings who walked into the restaurant.

She didn't know them, but every community had it's posse of cute, popular young people. And Bly was sure this was Shanghai's cool clique.

"Honey, sit up," Mia Grey chastised her daughter quietly under the din of the busy restaurant. Bly buried her nose in her wonton soup.

Bly sneaked a peek at the boisterous group. She spied a petite red head, a surfer dude with longer hair and a cute-really cute blonde guy.

Tay sensed eyes on him. He glanced up and gave Bly a small smile. Bly's stomach flipped. "Oh God!" she thought nervously.

Introduction: Bly Arrives in Shanghai

Bly was drained after her flight to Shanghai. Her mom interjected, "We need to impress them at dinner. You understand?"

Bly squinted through the smog hovering over Shanghai and ran her hand through her long brown hair. "Ugh, I need a shower," she thought.

She peeked over at her Dad, madly texting about the @meiguoren #USAP USA Pavilion. It was going to be a long few months.

The Grey Family pulled up to the Ritz Portman Shanghai @ritzcarltonpr and had their mountains of bags brought up to their luxury apartments.

Bly cringed in embarrassment. It was like they brought America with them. She saw the gawking faces and felt far from home.
